The Brevard County Juvenile Drug Court Expansion and Enhancement of Substance Abuse Treatment (EESAT) Program will serve at-risk youth between the ages of 13 and 17 presenting with sexual trauma and abuse, sexually acting out in combination with drug use and exhibiting risky sexual behaviors. These school aged youth present with substance and alcohol abuse, co-occurring mental health disorders, are living below poverty level and are involved in the criminal justice system. The EESAT Program will provide evidence-based outpatient treatment, mental health services, aftercare, RSS and transportation at two treatment locations. To eliminate barriers, the treatment provider Specialized Treatment, Education and Prevention Services (STEPS), Inc. will provide assessments on a walk-in basis at times convenient to youth and their families; provide transportation for groups, appointments and RSS; see youth in their homes; conduct groups and provide services to youth detained at the Brevard County Juvenile Detention Center and provide RSS and aftercare. The purpose of the EESAT Program is to expand and enhance evidence-based substance abuse treatment and RSS in the existing Brevard County Juvenile Drug Court to additional juvenile offenders. The goals are assisting offenders with reducing drug and prescription drug use and dependence; improving psychological status; reducing involvement with the criminal justice system; creating an effective support system which includes families, mentors and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA); developing life management skills and practicing such skills under guidance and supervision; and acquiring social academic and vocational skills that they will need to be successful in life.
