Cheshire County Drug Court - The County of Cheshire, New Hampshire, is planning to expand the substance use disorder treatment capacity in their Superior Court through the development of the Cheshire County Drug Court Program (CCDC). This funding will increase assessment, treatment and recovery services being offered by the Phoenix House Keene Center and Southwestern Community Services to high risk/high need adult offenders in this post adjudication model. Currently, the County of Cheshire has a Mental Health Court and Alternative Sentencing Program in its' 8th Circuit Court and will have its' Drug Court Program in Superior Court operational on June 1, 2013. The Cheshire County Drug Court Program targets non-violent felony offenders who will participate in the program for an average length of 12-24 months and will be assessed for criminogenic risk with the use of the Ohio Risk Assessment System (ORAS) and screened and assessed for treatment needs with the Global Appraisal of Individual Needs Initial (GAIN-I). The primary goal of CCDC is to positively impacting the lives of those committing nonviolent felony offenses because of substance use disorder issues. This goal will be met through the development of a collaborative drug court team that will provide the rigorous structure needed for successful drug court participation, as well as through the expansion of evidence-based treatment and recovery services available to meet the needs of at least 129 participants being served (43 participants enrolled each program year). Several evidence-based practices demonstrated to be effective with criminal justice populations, including Thinking for a Change, Mapping-Enhanced Counseling, Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment, and Motivational Interviewing will be utilized in this project.
