Project SUNRISE has been designed by people in recovery at the Alcohol / Drug Council of North Carolina (RCO) to improve the health and longevity of individuals who are in recovery from clinical addictions by improving access and offering recovery support services in Durham County, North Carolina. The goals for the program are as follows: to establish a democratically run peer-to-peer recovery support network to educate and support individuals in recovery in achieving sustained whole health recovery and develop recovery leadership; to create recovery assessment tools to help individuals identify recovery opportunities and risks; to implement groups and educational programs that support holistic long-term recovery and increase recovery capital; develop a health disparities impact statement using grantee data to identify subpopulations vulnerable to health disparities and develop a plan to decrease differences in access, services use and outcomes. All services are being developed and provided by people in recovery. The project is an expansion of ADCNC's partnerships with North Carolina Central University Department of Psychology and the Julius L. Chambers Biomedical Biotechnical Research Institute, Outreach Export Grant and El Hispano Centro.
