Jobs2Vets - MTI Integrated Business Development, Inc. (MTI IBD), an RCO specializing in vocational rehabilitation services, proposes to establish the Jobs2Vets program, a vocational rehabilitation and recovery program for substance-abusing homeless veterans. Jobs2Vets, which utilizes a peer-to-peer service delivery model, is a collaborative effort between MTI IBD, the VA New Jersey Health Care System (VANJ) and Rutgers-Bloustein Center for Survey Research. Jobs2Vets will provide recovery and employment services to 100 veterans annually, 300 during the 3 years of funding. Our target population has a mean age of 46 (range: 26-80), about 4% are women, 67% African American, and 4% Hispanic. About 70% have a co-occurring mental health problem. With the use of the evidence-based Individual Placement Supports model (IPS) for vocational rehabilitation combined with Relapse Prevention Therapy (RPT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), the Jobs2Vets program is specifically designed to address the numerous cultural, socio-economic and bio-psychosocial factors that contribute to unemployment, financial insecurity, and homelessness among veterans. At 6-months post program admission, the project goals include achieving employment and/or enrollment in formal education or training for 80% of participants; competitive employment for 50%; 0 days homeless in the past 30 for 80%; no past-30 day drug use for 85%; no past-30 day alcohol use for 85%; no past 30-day psychiatric symptoms for 75%; and no past 30-day psychiatric hospitalizations for 90%. These Goals will be achieved by providing all Jobs2Vets participants with a comprehensive psychosocial and vocational assessment, individualized recovery plans, peer recovery coaching/mentoring, employment coaching, and a broad range of supportive ancillary services, including routine recovery check-ups (face-to-face or telephone), drug-free socialization activities, peer social support groups and linkages to primary and mental health care.
