Pima County Family Drug Court - Pima County Family Drug Court (FDC) will expand and enhance services to children and families affected by parental substance abuse in child dependency cases by offering the Celebrating Families! curriculum, individual and family trauma-informed care, gender-specific therapy, primary healthcare, peer support and alumni services. Intensive case specialists and drug court oversight will ensure coordination of this continuum of care. FDC serves parents with alcohol and drug problems, and most FDC parents have co-occurring mental health disorders; their drugs of choice include methamphetamine, cocaine, alcohol, heroin, prescription drugs and synthetics. The goals of the project are to increase graduation (currently 50%) and decrease recidivism (currently 12%). Enhancing this project by offering the Celebrating Families! curriculum two years ago has increased graduation rates, as well as parental involvement and family reunification. Celebrating Families! is an evidence-based, 16-week curriculum that addresses the needs of children and parents in families that have serious problems with alcohol and other drugs. FDC will put a special emphasis on increasing father enrollment. FDC proposes to mitigate the loss of mental health services for our parents due to cuts to the Arizona indigent health budget by expanding on this model, providing trauma-informed, gender-specific and family therapy services. FDC has successfully funded three Recovery Support Specialist positions in the past two years, and recently contracted with a community agency to provide an Alumni Coordinator and a setting for regular FDC alumni meetings. FDC has been a part of a court-wide effort to engage fathers, adding a separate father's court session and hiring a male Recovery Support Specialist. We will expand these efforts to include gender-specific outpatient and intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment for FDC fathers.
