GRANTS TO EXPAND SA TREATMENT CAPACITY FOR ADULT DRUG COURTS - The DeKalb County Drug Court (DCDC) is seeking to expand and to enhance services. The projected outcomes are as follows: 1) the full-time DCDC public defender position will increase the number of referrals and decrease the time from arrest to program admission; 2) the retention of the DCDC drug screening lab tech and in-house lab services will allow the program to effectively screen a growing census of participants an average of 3 times per week on multiple drugs of abuse; 3) the inclusion of HIV screening and services, increase awareness of prevention strategies, and provide HIV positive participants with immediate counseling and a monthly stress management support group; 4) the inclusion of medical screening for Track II participants to screen enrolled participants for medical problems, including communicable conditions and more effectively refer participants to appropriate medical services; 5) the availability of psychiatric screening and services to refer and monitor participants flagged for mental health problems to a psychiatrist, and ensure that participants with a psychiatrist diagnosis receive appropriate, coordinated follow-up care; and 6) the Georgia State University evaluation will provide the DCDC with critical repeated-measure data and continue to monitor and improve its use of evidence-based services.
