The Butte County Dependency Drug Court Family Enrichment and Support Team Project will provide comprehensive family-centered support to children, their parents and caregivers. The target population consists of families participating in Butte County's Dependency Drug Court (DDC) Program and whose children who are between the ages of 0-3, are affected by Methamphetamine or other substance abuse. The objectives are to expand services to young children, their parents and their caregivers who are participating in DDC by creating a comprehensive family-centered approach. Key components of the services to be integrated into Butte County's DDC are formulated on the idea that relationships are a key to changing systems and practices and that building upon family strengths promotes healthy relationships for families with young children. Specifically, the Nurturing Parenting Programs curriculum will be provided to both parents in DDC and to kinship care providers. The Nurturing Parenting curriculum will be used in both the classroom setting and in the home. Participants will also receive one-on-one parent modeling and coaching. All children in the project will receive a social-emotional and developmental screening using the Ages and Stages Program. The project will employ DDC Graduates to work with the foster families and relative caregivers to assist providing education regarding substance abuse as well as modeling the successful outcome of treatment and recovery. These identified staff will additionally work with newly identified participants entering the program to provide peer support during the process through program completion.
