Jackson Recovery Court Project - The Mid-South Substance Abuse Commission and the Jackson County 4th Circuit Recovery Court is partnering to enhance the substance use disorder treatment services for the Recovery Court. This project is called the Jackson Recovery Court (JRC). The purpose of the project is to enhance the JRC's structure by strengthening substance use disorder (SUD) treatment's continuity of care. The entrance criteria for the JRC are individuals meeting sentencing guidelines for an intermediate or straddle cell offender with a SUD diagnosis, non-violent felons who have a SUD diagnosis and are charged with any of the following: an OUI 3rd, a drug offense (possession and delivery if not for profit but to obtain drugs), or certain select financial crimes such as forgery and uttering and publishing. Each offender's offense and prior record result in a score which suggest prison, jail and/or probation or a "straddle cell". A defendant with a straddle cell score can be sent to prison or just jail and probation at the discretion of the sentencing judge. The introduction of "straddle cell" offenders has negatively impacted the graduation rate. The goals of the project are to increase the JRC participants' engagement in SUD recovery services to strengthen continuity of care; incorporate evidence-based practices to address the unique cultural and clinical characteristics of the JRC population; andto solidify linkages and address system gaps among the following: SUD system, inclusive of treatment and prevention; recovery community; primary healthcare providers; other interested community resources; and the JRC.
