In partnership with Loma Linda University Health (LLUH) through the Loma Linda Health Education Consortium (LLUHEC), SAC Health System (SACHS), a Federally Qualified Health Center, a current Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education (THCGME) site, seeks to implement a THCGME Program in obstetrics and gynecology (OBGYN) committed to serving the Medically Underserved Area (MUA) of the low-income and disadvantaged aging population in the Inland Empire region of Southern California. While SACHS has been leading the THC efforts in the Inland Empire, LLUH has been leading the efforts of all residency programs in the region. LLUHEC provides for the training of residents from Loma Linda University Health Medical Center (LLUMC) at a community-based, 501 (c) (3) health center. SACHS, hosting three current THCGME Programs, is located in the impoverished community of the Central San Bernardino in the Inland Empire region of California and has provided primary medical, behavioral and dental care and residency clinical rotations on site since 1995, and then THCGME residency programs, in collaboration with LLUHEC, since 2012. SACHS is requesting THCGME support to add 1 resident per PGY class, totaling four resident full-time equivalent (FTE) in obstetrics and gynecology (OBGYN). We would prefer to add one PGY-1 and one PGY-2 resident during the first year of funding, and then add one PGY-1 resident each year afterward, ultimately reaching 4 total additional residents. With a current complement of 32, this will bring the total number of residents benefitting from THCGME support to 36 per year as all OBGYN residents will participate in activities related to the THCGME program.
