Teaching Health Center Planning and Development Program - Address: 501 South Washington Avenue, Suite 1000, Scranton PA 18505-3814 Project Director Name: Meaghan Ruddy, MA, PhD Contact Phone Numbers: 570.371.7176 Email: ruddym@thewrightcenter.org Website: www.thewrightcenter.org Grant Amount: $500,000 The purpose of The Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education (TWCGME) Teaching Health Center Planning and Development (THC-PD) funding application is to establish a new community-based Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program that is accredited by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education in medically underserved settings of Northeast Pennsylvania including Lackawanna, Luzerne, Wayne, Wyoming, Susquehanna, Monroe, and Pike counties. The Pediatric Residency Program will be located at The Wright Center for Community Health, 501 South Washington St. in Scranton. The Wright Center is in Lackawanna County and is a Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alike dedicated to serving Northeastern Pennsylvania’s most vulnerable residents; it currently provides a comprehensive medical home to more than 32,882 patients, over 40% of whom are uninsured, underinsured, or low-income. The proposed services are to: 1) develop a new accredited community-based residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology; 2) provide interprofessional training specific to the needs of the community; 3) aim to decrease health care disparities by identifying and immersing trainees in the care of low-income vulnerable populations; and, 4) address other known challenges specific to Teaching Health Center residency programs and ensuing residents will encounter a high enough volume of patients. This residency program will address the workforce gaps and training needs for physicians in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
