HHM Health and Texas A&M School of Dentistry will leverage its abilities and community partnerships to establish this new residency. In the two year project period, COHORT leadership will apply for certificate, residency, and surgery center accreditation through their associated governing agencies. Additionally, COHORT will hire a program director and clinical faculty. By the end of the two-year planning and development cycle, the consortium will successfully obtain accreditation of its general practice residency program for up to six residents in 2026. Additionally, the consortium will be granted graduate certificate recognition through Texas A&M School of Dentistry (TAMSOD) and awarded Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) accreditation for its associated didactic courses. Lastly, the consortium will have successfully obtained Medicaid accreditation for its surgical center at the TAMSOD main campus. Through a Graduate Medical Education (GME) consortium, COHORT will systematically initiate a residency program that will train residents in general, pediatric, geriatric, and special care dentistry. It will also strengthen the public health dentistry training of residents in assessing and addressing population needs. Formation of general practice residency (GPR) program will equip trained primary care dentists to lead interprofessional, patient-centered care teams in a range of clinical and community settings. COHORT will establish a postdoctoral residency program that will encourage future trainees to incorporate population health topics, manage medically compromised dental patients, coordinate interprofessional care, and demonstrate cultural competency. Overall, the project will initiate a primary care dentistry residency that will transform current practices and oral health care delivery in Dallas County.
