In partnership with its patients and its consumer-led board, VNACJ CHC offers access to comprehensive services designed to eliminate health disparities and improve the quality of life within the communities of Monmouth County and the surrounding areas. VNACJ CHC provides everyone, regardless of financial circumstances, access to a medical home that delivers compassionate, comprehensive services that respond to the cultural and linguistic diversity of the community. The proposed project aims to achieve Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accreditation and create a family practice residency program that will matriculate four (4) residents per year. The purpose of VNACJ CHC’s proposed family practice residency program is four-fold. First, the proposed residency program aims to train the next generation of family practice physicians to provide comprehensive, coordinated, patient-centered care through a multidisciplinary training curriculum that integrates primary care medical, behavioral health, dental, social service, and public health approaches. Second, the proposed residency program aims to address the shortages that exist in the primary care workforce, particularly for those willing and able to serve diverse, often economically disadvantaged residents. Third, the proposed residency program aims to strengthen the Monmouth County region by providing training and enhancing career opportunities for those living in the County. Finally, the proposed program aims to strengthen VNACJ CHC's organizational capacity as one of the region’s most vital healthcare organizations. Funding for this project, over the two-year project period, will be used to hire the proposed residency program’s administrative staff, develop necessary community partners, recruit program faculty, achieve ACGME accreditation, develop the program’s curriculum, develop critical organizational systems, and recruit the initial cohort of residents. VNACJ CHC is extremely well situated to establish its own family practice residency program. It is a strong, mature, highly effective health center, with robust organizational structures and systems. It serves a high need, diverse patient population that provides comprehensive, well integrated primary care services, including strong medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, community health, enabling and supportive services. The Health Center has been operating in the County for nearly 30 years and its founding partner and organizational affiliate has been operating in Monmouth County for more than 100 years. VNACJ CHC’s proposed residency program has the strong backing and support from its primary partners the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, Monmouth Medical Center, the Monmouth County Public Health Department and many of the County’s core community health organizations. VNACJ CHC’s Board of Directors, it leadership team, and its clinicians are convinced that a residency program will allow it to more fully leverage its expertise, experience, and community connections in ways that will allow it to better meet the needs of the community, address workforce shortages, and recruit and retain staff.
