It provides dental services mainly to the medically indigent population. The General Practice Residency Program (GPR) of the UPRSDM is the only program of its kind providing specialized dental care to medically compromised patients all over the island. A curricular requirement of the program is the provision of didactic and clinical training to HIV/AIDS patients. Its partnership with Puerto Rico Community Network for Clinical Services, Research and Health Advancement, Inc. (PR CoNCRA) has provided the residents with multiple clinical experiences since this is one of the few agencies providing dental care to the HIV/AIDS community in the San Juan Eligible Metropolitan Area. Dental services not available at PR CoNCRA are referred to the GPR clinics at the Hospital of the University of Puerto Rico and the UPRSDM, providing excellent follow-up to patient care. Dental Reimbursement funds will be used for staff, residents and faculty education and training in the management of HIV /AIDS patients and associated oral conditions. This will be accomplished by covering continuing education costs at local and national meetings.
