Gonzales, DMD,MS,MSS Phone/Fax Number: 843.718.4286/ 706.723.0276 E-mail Address: THGONZALES@augusta.edu Website Address: http://www.augusta.edu/dentalmedicine/index.php Funding Requested: $76,603 Purpose: The purpose of this program is to improve access to oral healthcare services and provide optimal HIV care and treatment for low-income people with HIV, to provide resources to advance HIV care and treatment to improve health outcomes, thereby, reducing health disparities for people with HIV; and to train dental students, dental hygiene students, and dental residents to routinely deliver dental care to people with HIV. The Dental Reimbursement Program (DRP) accomplishes this by defraying a portion of the unreimbursed dental care costs recognized by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. NEED TO BE ADDRESSED AND PROPOSED SERVICES: Basic restorative procedures(fillings) and cleanings will be addressed through the use of this grant. Dental cavities and untreated gum diseases are the primary reasons that adults lose their teeth. This grant increases access to vital oral health services needed by this unique population cohort.
