Dental Reimbursement Program - NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull, a general hospital as defined in Public Health Law (PHL), Section 2801 (10) Article 28 facility, under the auspices of NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation is hereby applying to the "FY2023 RWHAP Part F Dental Reimbursement Program (NOFO #HRSA-23-053)". The requested funds ($463,551) will partially defray the unreimbursed costs of HIV dental care and support our postdoctoral Oral Care training program with our dentistry affiliate, New York University (NYU) School of Dentistry. Our HIV oral healthcare program is a unique and effective model to manage oral manifestations, as the Paul Paroski, Jr. Family Center offers a co-located HIV-dedicated practice that provides a "One-Stop Shopping" model for primary, oral health, and specialty care to PLWHA and their affected family members. Further, by providing oral health care co-located with primary care, we fully integrate all healthcare disciplines and improve the patient’s quality of life while maintaining the patient linked to the overall HIV care continuum. Our dental residents rotate through the practice under the supervision of a New York University (NYU) affiliated Attending Dentist, with specialty training in the assessment and management of the oral manifestations of HIV. NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull currently provides Ryan White Part A and Part C/Early Intervention Services in Brooklyn (Kings County), New York and serves mainly Hispanic/Latinx and Blacks or African-American, LGBTQ, and immigrants living in our Primary catchment area (Zip Codes - % of Patients): 11206 (23% of patients); 11221 (11%); 11237 (6%); 11207 (5%) and 11385 (5%) and our Secondary Catchment: 11211 (5% of patients); 11208 (5%); 11233 (4%); 11212 (3%); 11216 (2%); 11205 (2%); 11213 (2%) and 11222 (2%). Due to the significant lack of HIV specialists and dental clinical services for PLWHA in Brooklyn (with an estimated population of over 2.74 million and 24,000 PLWHA in our catchment area, HRSA/Ryan White funds are limited to five (5) dentals clinics in our different neighborhoods), the requested funds ($463,551) will also allow NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull to continue to expand and/or provide access to oral care access to the PLWHA in Northern Brooklyn. In FY2022, our dental program provided services to 367 unique patients with over 3,200 visits for different types of oral health services at our dental practice that operates all day, include evenings to ensure access to care.
