It encompasses Erie County Medical Center (ECMC), the region’s only Level I Adult Trauma Center and American College of Surgeons-Verified Trauma Center as well as the largest safety net hospital, serving a large proportion of at-risk and Medicaid enrollees. Located in the heart of the City of Buffalo, ECMC is an advanced medical center with 573 inpatient beds, on- and off-campus primary health centers, and over 30 outpatient specialty care service centers. ECMC is located in the heart of the City of Buffalo and serves all eight counties of Western New York. As the region’s NYS Designated AIDS Center, ECMC has been a regional center for HIV/AIDS care and services since 1984. With three on-site dental centers and one off-site satellite dental center, high quality dental care is provided for those with HIV/AIDS through direct collaboration between its dental centers and YOU Center for Wellness (formally Immunodeficiency Services Center). As the region’s largest safety net hospital, ECMC serves a high proportion of minority, low-income, at-risk, and under/uninsured populations with high quality medical care. Through its four dental centers, ECMC provides dental services ranging from general dentistry to prosthetics, oral surgery, and dental oncology. Emergency dental services are also provided 24/7 though the Emergency Department. Direct, comprehensive, and urgent care oral health services are provided by postdoctoral dental residents, attending staff dentists, and dental hygienists. As a part of its mission to provide every patient the highest quality of care delivered with compassion, ECMC is committed to providing access to healthcare for all patients, regardless of their ability to pay or source of payment. As such, ECMC provides significant charity care annually for those patients who are uninsured or underinsured. Through the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Part F Dental Reimbursement Program, ECMC seeks reimbursement for these services provided to those with HIV/AIDS in the amount of $267,807.69.
