The purpose of the Spread the Word Not the Virus project is to develop and maintain a comprehensive, age appropriate, and culturally relevant prevention program aimed at increasing knowledge and changing attitudes about alcohol, drug use, and engaging in risky sexual behavior. Specifically, substance use, HIV, and HVC prevention education and services will be provided to minority college students at BSU youth, ages 18-24, in communities neighboring the campus disproportionately affected by HIV. A peer-to-peer outreach model involving evidence-based programs will be implemented to prevent and reduce the onset of substance abuse and the transmission of HIV/AIDS.
