The coalition will prevent and reduce youth substance use by implementing these strategies; Training a cadre of volunteers to do brief training programs in approximately 50 local medical offices in the evidence based practice model SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment) for the target age group in collaboration with The Partnership for a Drug Free America Arizona; implementing Parental Substance-Abuse Prevention Programs (SAPP) at both school districts' Junior and High schools during parent teacher conferences (at least 4 total programs) based on evidence based; conducting a community forum for parents and youth with presentations on prescription drugs, intervention strategies, reducing risk and increasing protective factors for youth at risk of substance abuse ; enhancing a Social Hosting Ordinance in the Town of Pinetop-Lakeside; training volunteers to conduct outreach education to 20 alcohol retailers and convenience store staff about adults purchasing for underage buyers; and conducting at least four collections of unused prescription drugs to offer a safe, environmentally responsible way to dispose of unused or outdated prescriptions, to keep them out of the hands of youth. Distribute information on safe storage, federal disposal guidelines, and target area youth Rx abuse rates.
