Islip Drug Education Awareness Coalition - The Islip Drug Education Awareness (IDEA) Coalition services Islip, NY, an urban area with a population of 21,847. The goals of the Coalition are: (1) establish and strengthen collaboration among Islip Drug Education Awareness Coalition's partner organizations in support of the community's effort to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth; and (2) reduce substance abuse among youth in Islip, NY, and, over time, reduce substance abuse among adults by addressing the issues in our community that increase the risk of substance abuse and promoting the factors that minimize the risk of substance abuse.The Coalition will achieve its goals by implementing these strategies: Ensure that the Coalition members are trained in and implement all coalition-building concepts under the supervision of the Suffolk Coalition to Prevent Alcohol and Drug Dependencies, Inc. (2) Utilize the community systems perspective to implement environmental strategies that address the complex factors present in the community of Islip. (3) Involve four community members as community outreach workers to help engage and support the role and responsibilities of each community sector. (4) Involve all key community sectors in accepting specific roles and responsibilities in the Action Plan and Plan for Sustainability. (5) Ensure that all efforts conducted by the Coalition are conducted in the spirit of being culturally competent. (6) Enhance Islip youth's physical/mental health and academic success by providing a full menu of school and after-school, research-based prevention strategies. (7) Increase perception of disapproval of alcohol and drug use/abuse by parents/families residing in the Islip community through parent education, parent resource libraries, alcohol/drug-
