The purpose of Tapestry Health's Using New Media to Prevent Substance Abuse and HIV/AIDS is to reduce HIV and substance abuse (SA) risk by increasing access to high quality HIV and SA prevention services through the use of Popular Opinion Leader (POL)-led interactive blogging and other new media outreach that targets isolated, underserved, hard-to-reach individuals in western Massachusetts. The target populations for this program are (a) men who have sex with men (MSM) and (b) transgender (trans) individuals. The program will recruit, train, and supervise 10 Popular Opinion Leaders (peer mentors/coaches) during the project year. In addition, the program will provide new media outreach to reach 3,400 target population members during the year, as well as rapid HIV testing to 300 individuals.
