McHenry County Substance Abuse Coalition - The coalition will prevent and reduce youth substance use by implementing the following strategies: Engaging multiple sectors from the community in developing a strategic plan to educate about and reduce substance abuse among the county's youth; providing leadership for reducing youth substance use/abuse by implementing activities to bring coalition members together to work on community initiatives; developing a database to aid all sectors working with youth in the planning and development of evidence-base and best practice used in substance abuse reduction among young adults; developing a database to aid all sectors working with youth in the planning and development of evidence-based and best practices used in substance abuse reduction among young adults; developing a County Substance Abuse Youth Council and Leadership Academy. Implementing evidence-base peer mentoring and community services focusing on youth ages 12-15 years (the average age of first use); facilitating alcohol awareness education activities for schools and the entire community; coordinating a county-wide, youth-driven social media campaign to help youth identify and access positive peer group activities; creating system barriers such as consistent consequences for youth substance use to reduce substance use and promote activities that influence systems change; and implementing parent-driven, county-wide culturally sensitive drug use prevention social marketing campaign aimed at parent and businesses.
