Shasta STOP Partnership will strengthen community collaboration to focus on decreasing youth access to alcohol through responsible store alcohol placement policies and advertising practices; adjudication of DUI offenders through a real DUI Courts In Schools project; Awareness Campaign with Town Hall Forums; and safer and more responsible alcohol sales polices at community events. Shasta County, California is a rural community with a population of 183,023. The youth target population for middle school and high school is 18,269. More than 20% of the 7th graders report having had one or more full drinks in the 30 days; and 52% of 11th graders report having been very drunk or sick after drinking alcohol, 28% have driven a car or been driven by someone who has been drinking. The STOP Partnership is committed to increasing and strengthening key stakeholders and community-based participation to create environmental change. The STOP Partnership strategies include: - Annually targeting 5% of alcohol retail outlets with a Retail Store Alcohol Advertising and Placement (RSAAP) campaign - Annually target 2,000 high school and middle school youth with a Real DUI Courts In Schools program: - Annually implement an Awareness Campaign: The Awareness Campaign will target more than twenty thousand community members and serve as a catalyst to increase the coalition's capacity to reduce alcohol use among youth. The campaign consists of 2 Town Hall Forums and strategies designed to disseminate information on practices proven to reduce underage drinking. - Annually implement the Safety Assessments For Event Remediation Project (Project SAFER): SAFER is designed to assess community events that serve alcohol. The goal is to ensure organizers, law enforcement, and municipalities create policies and procedures that reduce youth access to alcohol at the events.
