The EW Alution 96706 coalition was awarded a $75,000 Drug Free Communities Mentoring Program FY 2012 grant by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The coalition will develop capacity, train, and mentor the Kapolei Community Coalition and assist them in applying for future Drug Free Communities funding.
EW Alution 96706 will achieve the objectives by implementing these strategies: 1. Enhance skills of Kapolei Comminity Coalition (KCC) to develop infrastructure through technical assistance, hosting visits to EW Alution 96706 (E9) coalition meetings, providing training, and establishing an internal communication system for members. 2. Build capacity for shared leader ship and community action through education, training, and technical assistance. 3. Develop a community assessment of youth substance use incidence and prevalence, related risk/protective factors, and existing strengths in the community. 4. Facilitate information dessemination, exchange, and dialog about youth substance use problems, actions to address it, and progress/outcomes by establish an open communication system for the community. 5. Establish a collective commitment to stewardship and convene a series of planning meetings grounded in values and inspired by vision to develop a multi-strategy community action plan.
