Crozer-Chester Medical Center will use STOP Act funds for "STEP-UP Chester, PA", which will be carried out by Crozer's existing Drug Free Communities coalition as part of a broader menu of youth substance abuse prevention activities. Ultimately, the proposed project is aimed at decreasing underage drinking. The Chester DFC coalition proposes to use STOP Act funds carry out a multi-platform media campaign targeting residents 18 and older residing in Chester (22,101 individuals; U.S. Census). The short-term aim of the parent campaign is to increase parent-child communication about the harms of alcohol and parents' disapproval of youth drinking. Long-term aims of the parent campaign are to: 1) increase youth perceptions of alcohol harm; 2) increase youth perceptions of parental disapproval of alcohol use; 3) increase youth disapproval of peer alcohol use; and 4) decrease youth past 30 day alcohol use. Our coalition also proposes to use STOP Act funds to conduct an alcohol vendor education campaign targeting all 39 licensed alcohol vendors in Chester. Short-term aims of the vendor campaign are to: 1) increase vendor education; and 2) increase incentives for alcohol vendors to follow laws restricting sales to minors- by using media to promote vendors who collaborate with our coalition. The long-term aim of the vendor campaign is to decrease the percentage of alcohol vendors who are cited for sales or service to minors by the Chester Police Department. We anticipate serving 34,011 individuals per year: 22,101 residents ages 18 and over, 39 licensed alcohol vendors, and 11,871 youth under age 21. Over the four years of the project this would total 136,044 (some individuals will be served in multiple years.)
