Armstrong-Indiana Underage Drinking Prevention Initiative - The STOP Act project will enhance the current capacity of the Armstrong-Indiana Drug Free Communities Coalition (DFCC) by allowing underage drinking enforcement and environmental activities of the Coalition to reach the smaller boroughs and townships located in Armstrong and Indiana Counties through increased enforcement of underage drinking laws, increased numbers of Age Compliance Checks and increased trainings for local law enforcement and licensed establishments. The DFCC has set a goal to reduce the alcohol, tobacco and other drug (ATOD) abuse pattern of youth 18 years of age and under by 5%. The objective is to reduce the risk factor of availability of ATOD in the community by 10%. The above initiative to increase the capacity of the Armstrong and Indiana County Underage Drinking Task Forces will contribute to the goals and objectives set by the DFCC. Another goal of the DFC grant is to reduce favorable attitudes towards alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs by 5%. The STOP Act project will also allow the Coalition to meet this goal by increasing the amount of programming in the schools and community related to underage drinking prevention. It would allow for expansion of the Alcohol and Driving/Underage Drinking program in the schools that is completed with youth in grades 9 and/or 10. Currently the program is not done in the Armstrong County schools. It would also allow for the expansion of a social norms media campaign for all the schools and communities to publicize the fact that most youth do not drink alcohol. Statistics from the PAYS would be used to show youth that most of their friends do not use alcohol and it is not the "cool" thing to do. . It would also allow for the expansion of environmental activities to more rural parts of the counties.
