The Lexington One Community Coalition - The Lexington One Community Coalition (LOCC) was founded to address the increasing problem of underage drinking within South Carolina's Lexington County School District One (LCSDO) community. The STOP grant funds will help expand efforts into this new attendance zone and will include the extension and expansion of youth-led involvement in prevention activities, environmental strategies (e.g., compliance checks, etc.), and community awareness activities to reduce and prevent underage drinking. Through its collaboration with various community sectors and oversight by the Lexington Richland Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council (LRADAC), LOCC has implemented a variety of evidence-based programs, practices, and policies in its collaborative efforts with local, state (e.g., DAODAS), and national partners (e.g., SAMHSA). Over the years, LOCC has proved itself to be successful in coordinating and collaborating with key partners (including state and federal government) to prevent and reduce alcohol use among youth in LCSDO. Specifically, LOCC has mobilized various sectors of the community and built ongoing relationships with youth, parents, law enforcement, educators and business leaders to work together to protect the youth of the community from the negative consequences associated with alcohol use and abuse. With a population of 121,000 or 46 percent of the county, the LCSDO currently consists of five geographic areas: White Knoll, Lexington, Gilbert, Pelion, and Meadow Glen. The need for an additional attendance zone, Meadow Glen, highlights the significant growth in LCSDO over the last five years.
