The Fulton County Alcohol Use Prevention Program is a response to the Surgeon General's Call to Action to Prevent and Reduce Underage Drinking and SAMHSA's Strategic Initiative: Prevention of Substance Abuse and Mental Illness. The goal of this program is to prevent and reduce alcohol use among youth age 12-20 in Fulton County communities. The Fulton County Alcohol Use Prevention Program is designed to implement policy, systems, and environmental change strategies utilizing evidenced based approaches to affect community-level change regarding alcohol use and abuse among youth and adults in Fulton County communities; to and strengthen collaboration among communities. This program will establish the prevention of underage drinking as a priority issue for the state of Georgia and enhance intergovernmental cooperation and coordination on the issue of alcohol use among youth in Fulton County. This program will also begin to focus on the clinical characteristics of youth alcohol use and abuse including developmental disabilities, mental disorders such as depression, and ddictive tendencies/behaviors with 50 participants ages 12-20 residing in Fulton County communities.
