The coalition will prevent and reduce youth substance use by implementing the following strategies: (1) Increase Coalition membership with broader representation from community sectors. (2) Build capacity by utilizing community partners and resources available. (3) Increase the Coalition's knowledge of the SPF SIG framework. (4) Engage the municipalities and community organizations in discussions around youth substance use. (5) Increase collaboration across GSPHC and District Public Health infrastructure. (6) Educate retailers about the liquor laws, policy development, and false identification detection. (7) Educate retailers about the tobacco laws, policy development, and false identification detection using PTM's NO BUTS (Blocking Underage Tobacco Sales) Program. (8) Mobilize youth to engage retailers into reducing the impact of in-store advertising to youth. (9) Educate parents about the risks of supplying alcohol to minors. (10) Improve school policy and its enforcement specific to substance use. (11) Increase substance use prevention for youth as part of comprehensive school health education. (12) Increase the level of peer education and advocacy efforts within school districts. (13) Increase the number of towns that have policies and/or ordinances regarding tobacco/substance use at public events and open air places. (14) Establish a plan to implement a prescription drug disposal program. (15) Increase the public's understanding of proper storage and disposal of prescription drugs.
