The goal of project PROTECT, is to prevent and reduce the onset of substance abuse and transmission of HIV/AIDS among at-risk racial/ethnic minority college student ages 18-24 in Miami Gardens the largest predominantly African-American municipality in Florida. The campus-community project will include a comprehensive assay of evidence-based strategics and programs as well as capacity enhancing activities to include (1) CCAA, a social norms and environmental management program aimed at reducing high-risk drinking and related negative consequences among all FMU students (n=1916); (2) VOICES/VOCES, a video-based HIV/STD prevention program designed to encourage condom use and improve condom negotiation skills (n=600); and (3) BASICS, a prevention program for college students who drink alcohol heavily and have experienced or are at risk for alcohol -related program (n=600).
