The coalition will prevent and reduce youth substance use by implementing the following strategies: Providing information by conducting workshops for youth and adults on the harmsassociated with youth use of alcohol, marijuana and prescription drugs; enhancing skills by continuing to train Coalition members and community partners on environmental prevention strategies and conducting responsible beverage service trainings with alcohol outlets to prevent underage drinking; providing support to community partners to help integrate environmental prevention activities into multiple community sectors; enhancing access and reducing barriers by participating in "Take Back Days" to promote easy disposal of unwanted/expired prescription drugs; changing consequences by assisting law enforcement with compliance checks of local alcohol retailers, conducting Sticker Shock projects and merchant education to inform alcohol retailers and customers about underage drinking laws and consequences of furnishing alcohol to minors, and merchant education and Sticker Shock projects, and merchant education with local pharmacies on their role in preventing prescription drug abuse; changing physical design by conducting assessments of local alcohol outlets, smoke shops, and the environments surrounding medical marijuana dispensaries; and modifying/changing policies by implementing an awareness campaign on the effectiveness of social host ordinances.
