In the past two decades, Ohio's public mental health system has led the way to achieve reform and promote recovery. Now Ohio will build on that track record to achieve Mental Health Transformation. With strong leadership, the active involvement of all shareholders and support from the Mental Health System Transformation Grant, Ohio will knit together a wide range of resources and collaborations to achieve deeper change. Ohio approaches transformation as individuals and families approach recovery- as a meaningful process of internal change that requires strong external support. Ohio's resources include strong mental health leadership; effective advocacy groups; a demonstrated commitment to recovery, resiliency and cultural competence; nationally recognized approaches to promoting best/evidence-based practices, assessing outcomes, and evaluation research. Via this grant, Ohio will fully orient the mental health system and other systems to recovery, resiliency and culturally competent practices. Our goal and outcome is clear: children, families and adults will live their lives fully in their communities. Youth and adult consumers and families will be engaged in activities that affect their recoveries and service experiences, including person-centered planning, peer support and recovery/resiliency-oriented policy making. With the TSIG grant, Ohio will develop several new program approaches (i.e., trauma care for children and adults, older adult services and mental health supports for offenders reentering communities); integrate current policies and programs to emphasize person-centered planning, peer support and cultural competence; and develop the infrastructure to ensure effective collaboration and communication among all shareholders.
