The King County Assisted Outpatient Treatment Program will implement a county wide, multi-year effort to designed to infuse evidence-based practices (EBPs) in Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) program throughout the county provider network designed to reduce the incidence and duration of psychiatric hospitalization, homelessness, incarcerations, and interactions with the criminal justice system while improving the health and social outcomes of individuals with a serious mental illness (SMI). King County intends to use grant funds for infrastructure development to support the implementation of a coordinated program for the target population (individuals with SMI that are under least restrictive alternative [LRA]/AOT court orders), and to facilitate the delivery of community-based, outpatient treatment services and supports. The purpose of the proposed project is to develop and sustain a comprehensive, coordinated program of services and supports to better address the unique needs of the target population (individuals with SMI that are under LRA/AOT court orders. The goals of the project are to 1) promote participant engagement; 2) establish consistent and evidence-based approaches to assessing client needs and goals, and to developing and implementing person-centered plans; 3) facilitate successful linkage of clients to individualized services and supports; 4) increase access to medical, financial, housing, and employment resources; and, 5) support the achievement of individual recovery goals identified by participants. The following three EBPs will be used to implement the proposed program: Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Trauma-Informed Care (TIC), and Sidran Institute's Risking Connection framework. It is also important to note that AOT program participants will have access to other EBPs that are available in King County, as part of the full array of services.
