The Family Cafe Statewide Family Network is a unique partnership with the Florida Institute for Family Involvement, the state Federation of Families for Children's Mental Health to develop and enhance the capacity of families, organizations, and other stakeholders to transform the system of care for children and youth with severe emotional disturbance and their families in a manner that will facilitate effective mental health services that are family driven and youth guided. Data shows that in Florida 48% of the families of children and youth ages 2-17 years reported needing mental health services and not getting them. Our goals include: Florida family run organizations for families of children and youth with serious emotional disturbance will have strong relationships that facilitate an infrastructure built upon coordination, collaboration, communication, partnership and sustainability; families of children and youth will have the resources and information necessary to navigate the system of care and be full partners as system of care change agents; the delivery of services through the system of care will be responsive to identified needs; and, youth with serious emotional disturbance will develop leadership skills and the capacity to participate as partners in the evolution and development of programs within the system of care. Our objectives relate to the development of organizational and leadership capacity, networking, and enhanced data collection and reporting that can contribute to the strength of family and youth voice in systems transformation. By enhancing the capacity of families and youth to be partners, building the collaborative partner base among stakeholders, and creating a strong and sustainable organizational movement through training, networking and data reporting, we can impact system transformation and ensure families and youth serve as the energy for the project. We will serve approximately 20,000 families per year through our proposed approach
