Precision Rehabilitation Across the Lifespan - Project Summary (Resource Core) Precision rehabilitation is predicated on the discovery of stakeholder needs, implementation of data gathering strategies to address these needs, and integration of these multimodal data to inform clinical decision making. The Precise Center Resource Core will provide a series of customizable resources to address each of these stages. The Resource Core will provide 1) a toolset for guiding precision rehabilitation teams to develop and standardize a battery of clinical assessments, 2) tools (and associated guidelines) that leverage artificial intelligence technologies for clinical motor assessments and streamline collection and management of remote monitoring data from wearable devices, and 3) resources for integrating heterogeneous data sources, extracting relevant data, conducting complex statistical analyses, and displaying actionable data using a clinician-facing portal for shared clinical decision making. The first step in the precision rehabilitation framework is Discovery, where stakeholder needs are assessed to standardize a clinical assessment battery for consistent measurement of longitudinal recovery within the domains that are most important to stakeholders. In Aim 1, the Precise Center Resource Core will deliver a toolset that provides a systematized process for developing an optimal battery of rehabilitation assessments for populations with disabilities. We will ensure that this toolset is generalizable for development of rehabilitation assessment batteries in heterogeneous clinical populations across the lifespan. These batteries will be informed by the perspectives of rehabilitation clinicians and researchers as well as persons with lived experience. We will disseminate (via the Precise Center website) this toolset as a digital product that can subsequently be applied by other research teams to populations with different stakeholders, needs, and levels of support as well as across locations and environments. The second step in the precision rehabilitation framework is Implementation, where new technologies that fill the identified gaps in the Discovery needs assessment are developed and implemented. In Aim 2, the Precise Center Resource Core will provide scalable, accessible technologies that 1) enable artificial intelligence-based kinematic movement assessments from digital videos recorded using common household devices and 2) streamline collection and management of data provided by consumer-grade wearable devices. The third step in the precision rehabilitation framework is Integration, where multimodal datasets are created by centralizing electronic health records, publicly available data sources that provide important data on social determinants of health (e.g., the United States census), and data generated by the emerging technologies leveraged in Aim 2. In Aim 3, the Precise Center Resource Core will demonstrate new technology for integrating longitudinal, multimodal data sources for subgrouping analyses. Aim 3 will also provide new technology for rehabilitation clinicians to view these integrated data within the electronic health record.
