PRODUCE PRESCRIPTION PILOT PROGRAMA program to decrease food insecurity and increase consumption fruit, vegetable and traditional foods using private industry and harvested traditional foods. - The prescription produce program purpose is to decrease community food insecurity and lower the burden of chronic disease. By improving nutrition through eating more fruit, vegetable, and traditional foods the program anticipates lowered cardiovascular disease risk for people with diabetes and obesity. The program expects lowered cholesterol and blood pressure with a diet pattern that includes fruits and vegetables that are often undereaten in food insecure households. The program can promote improved nutrition by providing access to cooking and health education, and supplying grocery produce and tribal harvested foods from land and waterways.
