Project Overview Jacksonville Memorial Hospital (JMH), located in Jacksonville, Illinois is a rural hospital owned and operated by Memorial Health (MH) in Springfield, Illinois. JMH proposes to partner with MHS and Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (SIU SOM) located in Springfield, Illinois to create a Rural Training Track (RTT) to train residents in a rural psychiatry residency program, accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The RTT will include 2 residents per year for the 4 year program that will prepare them to sit for board certification in psychiatry. JMH, MH, and SIU SOM’s Department of Psychiatry, Office of Community Care and Office of Graduate Medical Education will plan, recruit for and facilitate the RTT with the first cohort of trainees beginning their residency placement with MH at Springfield Memorial Hospital (SMH) in Springfield in August 2023. JMH does not operate an inpatient psychiatric unit so all inpatient rotations will occur at SMH and not exceed the 50% threshold in a urban setting. Outpatient psychiatric rotations will occur at JMH and other rural clinic. A total of eight residency positions or slots will be created through the program by 2026. As a resident program greenfield, this is the first residency activity at JMH and first RTT implemented by MH. At present, SIU SOM offers 21 residency programs for various disciplines but currently has no RTTs in place with their affiliate hospitals. Measurable Objectives: 1. Approval of curriculum and program design by Jacksonville Memorial Hospital, Memorial Health and SIU School of Medicine leadership teams. 2. Submission and approval of ACGME application 3. Successful recruitment of new faculty members and resident /trainees for the RTT psychiatry residency program, a successful Match Day for new resident / trainees and the beginning of the RTT residency program.
