It also qualifies under an exception for outlying counties that do not have any urbanized area population. Population to be Served The populations to be served will be rural South Dakotans. This population has experienced significant disparities in access to rural services general and specifically have had difficulty access behavioral analysts services due to concentration of analysts in urban areas. South Dakota Department of Social Services Division of Behavioral Health, State Mental Health Department Experience in Serving Rural Underserved Populations The mission of the SHS is to “develop exceptional practitioners, leaders, and scholars who advocate for and improve the well-being of all people, particularly those in rural and underserved communities. We have done multiple projects included prior FORPH grants dedicated to increasing access to services in rural areas. We have also previously collaborated with all network partners on projects related to rural nursing workforce development and expanding access to behavioral health services.
