Network Members: WMC (lead applicant), Bon Secours Community Hospital (rural non-profit acute care hospital), Margaretville Memorial Hospital (critical access hospital). Each partner brings distinct expertise at identifying community health needs and providing direct clinical and non-clinical services to address them. The partners were also chosen because of their willingness to collaborate with one another and the shared recognition that programs and initiatives undertaken through a collaborative process will have far greater reach and impact than isolated efforts. As members of the larger WMCHealth Network, the Rural NY Nursing Workforce Development Network partners have worked together on numerous public and community health initiatives over the years and have a long history of collaborating in a variety of coalitions and networks. Experience in Serving Rural Underserved Populations: The Rural NY Nursing Workforce Development Network will be comprised of an established team of hospitals that have well-developed partnerships and community trust. The partners involved have a long history of collaborating on all aspects of patient care in the region. Building upon established partnerships, this new project will facilitate the expansion of network workforce development efforts to support patients in the rural Mid-Hudson and Catskills regions. The establishment of the proposed Network will increase primary care access in the region by providing critical resources to area providers, and ultimately local institutions of educations, to address barriers to recruitment and retention of a diverse nursing workforce competent in mental and behavioral health care. HRSA funding will allow for Network Partners to officially and formally collaborate on a regional approach to address the nursing workforce shortage and the issues around recruiting and retaining culturally competent nurses in a rural area. Funding Preference: WMC is requesting a funding preference as it meets qualification 1. The service area is located in a HPSA.
