Callen-Lorde is the global leader in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) health care as well as caring for populations living with HIV, transforming lives in our communities through excellent comprehensive care, provided with cultural sensitivity and free of judgment. We are welcoming to all, regardless of ability to pay. Callen-Lorde’s federally qualified health center (FQHC) network serves the geographic area of New York City, with existing sites in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the South Bronx and drawing patients from across the five boroughs of New York City and beyond. Callen-Lorde’s proposed project will implement a training-of-trainers model to improve the implementation of trauma-informed care and mental health first aid for case management and other support staff, with a particular focus on improving sensitivity/inclusion towards transgender and non-binary (TGNB) individuals. The project falls under the category of HIV Care Innovation - Inclusive care for underrepresented communities with disproportionately high rates of HIV. Project activities will include hiring a skilled consultant to provide training-of-trainers on mental health first aid and trauma-informed care, dissemination of training to direct service staff, updating policies and procedures to ensure best practices are implemented, consumer input on training needs and desired outcomes, and pre- and post-test evaluation of trainees to determine changes in knowledge/beliefs/attitudes towards promotion of inclusive care for underrepresented communities, particularly TGNB individuals. Callen-Lorde requests $150,000 of Ryan White Part C funds to achieve these efforts.
