Identification of the selected category and activity - Vivent Health is seeking funding to upgrade the diagnostic and high-volume evacuation (HVE) equipment at its Jack Sansing Dental Clinic in Austin, Texas. These changes will result in improvements to the quality and efficiency of dental care provided to people living with HIV/AIDS. The Project activities fall under the Infrastructure Development category. A summary of the proposed activity and its intended impact - Vivent Health’s dental clinic in Austin, Texas requires upgrades and replacement of diagnostic and high-volume evacuation (HVE) equipment. Vivent Health is seeking Ryan White Part C Capacity Development funding under the Infrastructure Development category to enhance dental care services to PLWH through equipment and technology upgrades by: purchasing one (1) NewTom GO 3D Panoramic Standard panoramic x-ray machine with 3D cephalometric imaging and Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) capabilities; purchasing one (1) Nomad 2 portable x-ray unit; purchasing three (3) MouthWatch+ Intraoral Camera compatible with current x-ray and EDR software; and purchasing three (3) Purevac HVE systems. Over the last three years, Vivent Health has seen a 117% increase in the number of dental patients served in Austin (going from 442 patients in 2020 to 268 patients in 2022). During the same period the Austin dental clinic has seen a 275% increase in the number of visits, going from 867 dental visits in 2020 to 3,251 dental visits in 2022. Much of our diagnostic equipment is aging and becoming obsolete with time, unable to provide the best digital imagery needed for diagnostic evaluation and treatment planning. Additionally, they don’t meet the standards now required by some dental insurers to justify coverage. HIV positive patients would greatly benefit from the proposed equipment upgrades. The NewTom GO 3D Panoramic Standard provides digital panoramic images intended to produce orthopanoramic and tomographic images to carry out diagnostic examination on teeth, dental arches, structures in the oral cavity, and some cranial bones. The Nomad Pro 2 x-ray unit provides precise, repeatable exposures and sharp, clear radiographic images, and allows for the operator to move freely between operatories. The MouthWatch+ Intraoral Cameras will allow staff to have an intraoral close-up analysis inside the patients’ mouth to assess and diagnose plaque formation, dental cavities, gum diseases, chipped or cracked tooth, broken dental fillings and other oral conditions. The dentist can assess whether dental treatments in the past have made a positive progression in the dental health of the patient, screen for oral cancer, and provide patient education/treatment planning. The Purevac HVE System is designed to provide oral high-volume evacuation, visualization, illumination, and retraction during dental procedures. Funding Amount Requested - Vivent Health is requesting a one-year Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Part C Capacity Development grant in the amount of $149,695 Identification of the statutory preference requested.
