The proposed Tribal Sexual Assault Coalition project to provide sexual violence prevention in Tribal communities. - Strong Hearted Native Women's Coalition, Inc. (SHNWC) is a Tribal Dual Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Coalitions Program (Tribal Coalitions Program) recognized under the violence against women act. The proposed Tribal Sexual Assault Coalition project represents a continuation for the Strong Hearted Native Women's Coalition, Inc. to provide technical assistance, training, and sexual violence prevention awareness including cultural strategies addressing the unique barriers facing American Indian/Alaska Native victims. Through this funding SHNWC will increase prevention strategies and protective factors incorporating traditional and cultural belief systems, while decreasing risk factors within our tribal community service area. Specifically, our plan will focus on the areas of Creative Protective Environment and Promoting Social Norms that Protect Against Violence. Specifically, the Project would seek to accomplish the following Goals and objectives: 1. The plan will be to build on our capacity to support prevention activities and strategies that change community perceptions to shift towards health and wellness. 2. Increase awareness of data available to support understanding of the health inequities within our tribal populations and communities. A) To provide culturally specific technical support and response strategies for local governments, tribal governments, sexual assault programs, sexual assault service providers, and law enforcement agencies, including judicial agencies. B) Coordinate and collaborate with tribal, local, state, and national governments, agencies, law enforcement, and community based agencies to identify service gaps, promote healing, provide safety and enhance response to victims and their children The proposed project will be conducted in primarily Southern California and the tribes that encompass SHNWC’s service area. Targeted outreach will be to American Indian, Alaska, and families who are victims or affected by sexual violence and health inequities.
