Georgia Network to End Sexual Assault Primary Prevention Project with Rural High Schools and Historically Black Colleges. - Project Abstract Summary The purpose of this prevention project is to address social and structural determinants of health to prevent sexual violence. We will do this through our current infrastructure and leverage our existing SV primary prevention capacity assessment. We will continue to collaborate with our SHD to enhance our SAP. We will Implement SV prevention approaches by working with racial and ethnic minorities and rural communities. Within racial and ethnic minority populations and rural communities, we will be implementing community-based programs to address social and structural determinants of health. The Georgia Network to End Sexual Assault (GNESA) Georgia’s Sexual Assault Coalition plans to implement this primary prevention project. Our state has a population of over 10 million and the majority of the state is considered rural. Of our 159 counties, 120 are identified by the State of Rural Health to be rural with a population of less than 50,000. According to the 2021 American Community Survey (ACS), the poverty rate in rural Georgia is 19.4%, 17.3 % of this population has not completed high school and the unemployment rate was at 3.2% (ACS, 2021). In assessing our state and in addressing inequities, GNESA proposes to use this funding to address social and structural determinants of health at the community and societal levels of the socio-ecological model. GNESA will focus on implementing two programs with 4 historically black colleges. These colleges are either within a rural county or are surrounded by rural counties. The two prevention strategies we will implement are “Bringing in the Bystandard” and “Hot Spot Mapping”. Our population focus will be racial/ethnic minorities as well as rural communities for these programs. Other programs we will be implementing with the guidance of the socio-ecological model will be “Coaching Boy Into Men” (CBIM) and “Athletes and Leaders” (AAL) and Hot Spot Mapping. GNESA will be implementing CBIM and/or AAL in four different rural counties in South Georgia. These four counties include 4 high schools. Our population focus will be rural communities. These 4 counties within Southeast Georgia only have 1 high school in each county. We will use publicly available data as well as our process and outcome evaluations to inform our actions. We will focus our outcomes on assessing the effectiveness of the programs we implemented, identifying areas for improvement, and providing evidence-based information. .
