NEW JERSEY RAPE PREVENTION AND EDUCATION (RPE) - The New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH), in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Children and Families, Division on Women (NJDCF-DOW), recognize that the prevalence of sexual violence is a health epidemic which transcends race, creed, age, gender, sex, religion, sector, industry, institution, education, military, and government. New Jersey is committed to the reduction of sexual violence and since 2015, the State Legislature has committed funds specifically for this purpose. The principal goal for this RPE funding opportunity is to enhance New Jersey’s prevention of sexual violence perpetration and victimization work by implementing evidence-based, evidence-informed, and/or promising strategies through engagement and collaboration with community-based public and private stakeholders and partners. New Jersey will build upon its efforts to engage men and boys, and culturally responsive leadership opportunities for girls, and creating protective environments for the LGBTQ community. The state works from the premise that ending sexual violence requires a survivor-informed approach with collaboration across sectors and disciplines. To prevent sexual violence in New Jersey, we must first identify the approach and strategy that can bring to bear the state’s greatest asset, the communities themselves. The intention of New Jersey’s PeRPEtual application is to continue to implement and build upon the three-prong approach approved via NOFO CDC-RFA-CE19-1902 while continuing to utilize a health equity lens. New Jersey’s approved three-prong approach is: • Required Focus Area 1: Strengthening Economic Supports- Empower and support girls through culturally responsive leadership development opportunities • Required Focus Area 2: Create Protective Environments- Create protective environments for LGBTQ communities • Required Focus Area 3: Promote Social Norms That Protect Against Violence SV- Engage men and boys as allies in the prevention of sexual violence This work will continue to be advanced statewide with implementing primary prevention efforts on the community/societal levels of the SEM continuum.
