The Vermont Network plans to strengthen capacity across our organization to advance health equity through implementation of sexual violence primary prevention strategies designed to accomplish Vermont RPE State Plan goals. These are: increasing safety, equity and respect and decreasing sexual harm and sexual violence in the lives of Vermont youth aged 12-18, especially youth of color, LGBTQ youth, youth with disabilities and youth living in poverty.
The Vermont Network will implement two strategies during the one-year project period:
1. Conduct a Primary Prevention Capacity Assessment of the Vermont Network’s readiness to plan and implement equity-focused strategies for primary prevention of sexual harm, and
2. Develop recommendations and action steps based on the assessment findings, to include and advance primary prevention of sexual harm and promote health equity in future work plans within the RPE Grant Program and across the organization.
During the one year grant period the Vermont Network plans to achieve the following outcomes delineated in the CDC’s Project Description for this funding opportunity: Increased understanding of Vermont Network staff expertise in health equity and primary prevention of sexual violence using public health model, and available resources inside and outside the organization to advance these goals; increased understanding of available data sources used to identify population(s) and communities of focus for sexual violence primary prevention strategies; increased understanding of current partnerships, and how these partnerships are or are not meeting current and future primary prevention and health equity work needs; and increased understanding of the Vermont Network’s current technical assistance provision to RPE sub-recipients and other Vermont Network member organizations and stakeholders, and how well it incorporates health equity.
Additionally, the Vermont Network plans to achieve these outcomes: increased understanding of work already in progress across the organization that contributes to health equity and primary prevention of sexual harm; increased alignment across the organization in service of equity-focused primary prevention efforts; identified opportunities to grow prevention efforts; created pathways for increasing youth-focused, equity-oriented prevention work; increased capacity for primary prevention health equity efforts across the lifespan, beyond Vermont RPE’s current focus population.
The Vermont Network will work with a variety of partners with expertise in prevention of sexual harm and advancing health equity in planning and implementing the Capacity Assessment, developing recommendations and action steps, conducting a process evaluation to determine the extent to which the Vermont Network has met the deliverables sought by the CDC, and developing plans to evaluate activities that will be implemented in response to the recommendations.
