The Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape (PCAR) proposes to implement and manage the National Sexual Violence Technical Assistance Resource Center for Prevention of Sexual Violence (Resource Center) over the next five years. PCAR has successfully managed the Resource Center since its inception in 1999 through a series of cooperative agreements from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Coordinating efforts at community, state, territory, and national levels, the Resource Center develops, identifies, and disseminates quality resources and technical assistance which promote the prevention of sexual violence, are grounded in research, and are accessible and practical. Resources and technical assistance are informed by needs and strengths assessments and evaluation measures like surveys and interviews, as well as the CDC, national and state partners, and an advisory council. They are delivered to practitioners in a variety of venues and formats including customized in-person training, web-based training, social media, and one-on-one consultation and technical assistance. During the five year project period, we will continue to develop and provide responsive and relevant resources and technical assistance, building on the previous 19 years of work we have done with state and U.S. territorial departments of health and partner organizations like state and territory sexual assault coalitions. We will continue to work with CDC and our national technical assistance partners, California Coalition Against Sexual Assault/PreventConnect and the Violence Prevention Technical Assistance Center, to build capacity among CDC-funded Rape Prevention and Education (RPE) recipients to increase skills for implementing, evaluating, and disseminating innovative, community-level sexual violence prevention strategies that are built on the best available evidence. PCAR, through this Resource Center, will continue to sponsor a comprehensive library on sexual violence and its prevention, an interactive website (www.nsvrc.org ), a semi-annual newsletter (The Resource), a prevention track of workshops at the annual National Sexual Assault Conference, a pre-conference National Dialogue on community-level prevention initiatives, annual regional trainings for RPE recipients, tools for media, and the annual Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) prevention campaign each April. We will increase the capacity of the recipients and their partners to develop more inclusive and diverse sexual violence prevention programs with a focus on health equity, addressing health disparities and the needs of populations at greatest risk for sexual violence. We will continue to build on our reputation as a “translator” and trusted communication channel to fill the research-to-practice gap. We will do this by building upon our research translation expertise to collect and share success stories and lessons learned from prevention practitioners, translate current research into practical guidance, and identify and share innovative and promising prevention practices with the sexual violence field.
