DC Rape Prevention Education Program - The District of Columbia Department of Health (DC Health) is requesting funding from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Injury Prevention and Control to implement and evaluate sexual violence prevention programs, practices, and policies within the District of Columbia. This support will enable the DC Rape Prevention Education Program (DC RPE) Program to achieve the following goals: Goal 1. Increase the use of partnerships to implement relationships/community-level strategies and improve coordination of District of Columbia’s sexual violence prevention efforts Goal 2: Increase use of data driven decision making for program delivery Goal 3: Increase use of indicator data to track implementation and outcomes Goal 4: Create environmental and community changes that result from selected community-level strategies. Goal 5: Demonstrate changes in selected risk and protective factors The DC RPE Program’s proposed approach aligns with DC Health’s strategic direction to strengthen public-private partnerships and implement data driven and outcome oriented approaches to program and policy development. The DC RPE Program will address Focus Area 1. Promoting Social Norms that Protect Against Violence and Focus Area 4: Create Protective Environments in order to: • Educate and train men and boys to alter community norms that support perpetration, including addressing negative behaviors and response to sexual violence; • Coordinate and provide technical assistance through a Sexual Violence Prevention Community of Practice (SVPCOP); • Develop and implement a DC State Action Plan; • Develop recommendations for the Sexual Violence Prevention Guidelines for K-12 Service Providers; and • Identify, align, and track state-level sexual violence indicators. The CDC’s Rape Prevention and Education: Using the Best Available Evidence for Sexual Violence Prevention funding will enable DC Health to build upon, rather than replace or duplicate, existing city-wide resources with the development of a program that outlines best practices in sexual violence supports and services. DC Health anticipates that by accomplishing the short-term and intermediate outcomes of the program, it will lead to a sustainable, long-term outcome of decreasing rates of sexual violence perpetration and victimization.
