Georgia Rape Prevention and Education: Sexual Violence Prevention - The successful implementation of RPE strategies depends on coordinated partnerships with community organizations and stakeholders statewide. With CD14-1401, GA-SVPP expanded its implementation efforts and increased its reach to colleges and universities, health districts, athletic programs, and further expanded relationships with middle and secondary schools. With the CE19-1901 Cooperative Agreement, GA-SVPP will build upon CD14-1401 to implement primary prevention at the community-level using guidance from STOP SV: A Technical Package to Prevent Sexual Violence and the Comprehensive Technical Package for the Prevention of Youth Violence. Thus, emphasis of the state evaluation plan will reflect increased efforts that empower girls, inform and support communities with environmental protection strategies, Involve men and boys as allies and continue, implementation of Safe Dates, Coaching Boys Into Men (CBIM), and Step Up Step In (SUSI). Paramount to the success of Georgia’s statewide community-level initiative (It Takes a Village) will be the presence of inclusion and diversity rural and metropolitan, socio-economic, sexual orientation, etc. With diversity comes unique challenges as gender biases are compounded when issues of race and ethnicity are factored in. The SVP program is uniquely positioned to be the purveyor of a new narrative and the fulcrum for shifting pervading norms. With 18 health districts that cover Georgia’s 159 counties (the 2nd highest number of counties of any state), DPH is poised to facilitate cross sector engagement and community systems alignment at the local (within the health districts) level and statewide. Taskforces are in integral part of the It Takes a Village Initiative. From statewide messaging to community empowerment models that give voice to the local level. Expected outcomes include an increase of protective factors, cross-sector collaboration, and increase of protective environments (hot mapping, alcohol density, etc.). Evaluation outcomes of both individual/relationship and community level initiatives include: an increase in data collection and distribution among project partners and an increase in data-driven and need-based resource allocation. As a Category B funded agency, GA-SVPP will execute its most ambitious sexual violence prevention approach to date. The community-level prevention model engages diverse sectors of society in the SVP conversation; position’s health districts, SVPP as partners of a statewide and local level collaborative; ensures that men and boys are allies in SV prevention; empowers and supports girls to counter the gender biases and inequities that perpetuate sexual violence; and lastly, creates protective environments in communities improving safety and monitoring.
