This grant proposal is in response to the Funding Opportunity Announcement Modernizing Environmental Public Health Tracking to Advance Environmental Health Surveillance, CDC-RFA-EH22-2202. The activities described in this application will allow Florida to modernize and advance environmental health surveillance. The requested funding will allow Florida to take a more modern approach to tracking and identifying data on environmental hazards and adverse health effects. Furthermore, as part of the standardized national EPHT Network, the state portal at www.floridatracking.com will continue to enable researchers, public health authorities, healthcare practitioners, and the public to access better information to improve the health of Florida communities. Over the next five years, Florida EPHT will focus on maintaining the required data sets currently on the state portal, while also working to enhance the EPHT Network and address important state-level priorities. The Florida public continues to be concerned with cancer rates, birth defect prevalence, cardiovascular disease, and other conditions that are tracked by EPHT. In addition, there are state-level priorities that Florida EPHT plans to monitor over the next three years (including infant mortality rates, life expectancy, and fish consumption advisories). At the same time, Florida understands the need to coordinate activities with CDC on initiatives such as health impact assessments and social determinants of health. This EPHT funding will allow for important improvements to the state portal at www.floridatracking.com and will ensure that the Florida data submissions to CDC continue uninterrupted.
