The Stale of Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) requests funding from CDC's National Center for Environmental Health to support DPH's commitment to expanding its current use of data to drive decisions, policies, ana practice in all environmental health operations for the purpose of reducing the known find emerging risks to the health of the State's citizens and visitors. This is demonstrated by the fifteen-year effort to implement a statewide Environmental Health Information System (EHIS) and performance reporting and informatics training for Environmental Health Specialists at county, district, and state levels. As a selected candidate for the continued funding opportunity of component A of this grant, DPH will ensure valid and reliable data for use in decisions, Georgia will expand the current efforts to defined key performance and data quality metrics and compile a collection of reports, informatics, and similar data review tools, as well as address the need to identify workload demands for staffing, training, and equipment. This effort will include development of model standard operating procedures for surveillance of risk factors and emerging threats to public health for each of the DPH Environmental Health Section programs. The project will expand a dedicated reporting and informatics training program for all Environmental Health Specialists with supervisory responsibilities and produce a set of model policies for reporting standards and utilization of data in all policy and planning decision making processes. These policies were developed in concert with the county staff to ensure they are appropriate for local board of health adoption. This training and policy development will expand the effectiveness of all environmental health programs and allow DPH to specifically target the issues identified by the UNCOVER EH research. DPH will maximize the results of this investment by leveraging the current resources maintaining our existing EHS used across Georgia and the previous work of establishing data standards and definitions. The five years of the proposed funding for all components will be needed to complete all aspects of the projects outlined for each component due to the State of Georgia's environmental health operations and populations effected.
