Recent public health threats of potentially catastrophic proportion underscore the importance of not only effective planning, but immediate and rapid response capabilities to new threats including a novel high consequence infectious disease epidemic. Illinois’ public health system and healthcare system, and their current emergency response capabilities and programs, will be integral parts of a rapid emergency response with all relevant partners.
The Department intends, through this application process, to revise, as necessary, existing plans to quickly receive and use future federal crisis response funds rapidly and effectively during an emergency, in a scenario of novel high consequence infectious disease epidemic. This application process, and CDC’s critical review and acceptance of it, will assure that Illinois will continue to be able to rapidly adapt existing plans to mobilize, surge, and immediately respond to public health emergencies within a 2-day period.
